Application requirements

Before completing an application for admission to NOSM, applicants should review the admission requirements for verifying information. The NOSM University reserves the right to change admission requirements without prior notice. Please follow all instructions carefully, and submit all required documents before the deadline. The university does not hold applications from year to year. If you are unsuccessful, you will have to reapply through OMSAS in the next admission cycle. To receive an offer of admission, you will be required to present proof of citizenship.

NOSM has historically been a strong institution for underrepresented students. However, the university has been making strides in increasing the representation of Indigenous students in its programs. This may be due in part to the socially-accountable admissions policy and a comprehensive outreach program for Indigenous high schools. To improve the diversity of admissions, the university also implements a context-score system. This adjustment balances known systemic bias and creates a level playing field for applicants.

For Winter 2020 admission, the minimum GPA required is 3.0. This is calculated from all courses completed in college. Students with two or more semesters of foreign coursework should send these transcripts directly to OMSAS. Applicants must also have a minimum GPA of 3.0, calculated using the OMSAS scale. The GPA for distance education courses is also considered. A total of ten full or twenty half-course credits must be taken and submitted.

Applicants must demonstrate a high level of self-motivation and self-direction. In addition, applicants should demonstrate a willingness to learn in a small group environment and thrive in a distributed learning environment. This application should be supported by verifiers for all activities. For example, the applicant should describe one ABS entry that has a large impact on their lives and how they have embraced criticism. Interview process

NOSM University was founded in 2002 to fill a physician shortage in Northern Ontario. The process is highly competitive and candidates must meet certain criteria to be considered for admission. Once the interview process has concluded, applicants will be informed of their status. The first year’s classes begin on August 20. There will be a one-year waiting period for students who do not get accepted. The admissions process can be stressful and lengthy, so being prepared is essential.

For admissions, candidates are evaluated on a range of cultural and geographic criteria. For example, age and gender are factors, as are self-identification of Indigenous or francophone background. The scores are calculated automatically by an automated system. The criteria that are used to rank candidates will vary by region, but overall, the process is expected to take around six months. NOSM hopes this will reduce the wait time. Once accepted, candidates will be contacted to arrange an interview.

If you wish to apply through the Francophone Admission Stream, you must meet specific criteria. You must submit a document in French and an essay written in French. Additionally, you must demonstrate French proficiency at your interview. If you have the necessary experience and are willing to commit to participating in a Francophone Curriculum initiative, you will be given a context score slightly higher than non-Francophone applicants. However, if you are not a francophone candidate, you can apply to the regular-stream.

During the interview process, you will have an opportunity to interact with members of the Admissions Committee. These members are comprised of third and fourth-year medical students and faculty. If invited for an interview, prepare to discuss your application, your interest in osteopathic medicine, and how your goals align with the programs offered at RowanSOM. The Admissions Committee will then review your Confidential Assessment Form and decide whether to invite you for an interview.

GPA calculation

To gain admission to NOSM, you must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The GPA calculation is based on all undergraduate course grades, including those earned while repeating a course. Graduate degrees will add 0.2 to your undergraduate GPA. You must have completed at least ten full-course credits and 20 half-course credits to be eligible for consideration. NOSM also requires you to submit a final transcript from all previous institutions attended.

To be considered for Winter 2020 admission, you must have completed a minimum of 10 full-year courses. All courses must appear on the transcript you submit to OMSAS, and the grade must be at least 3.0 on the OMSAS scale. During the application process, you must complete the same steps and pay the same application fee and payment methods as other applicants. The GPA calculation for NOSM admission is complicated, but it is not impossible.

The American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) will calculate two GPAs based on your premed transcript. The first GPA is the overall grade, and the second is the science GPA, which includes math, biology, chemistry, and physics. You must input all grades from every course, including any failed, duplicate, or withdrawal. If the course was removed because of unforeseen circumstances, it must be resubmitted.

If you don’t meet the requirements for the Francophone Admission Stream, your application will be reviewed for General Stream. Applicants must have a three-year recognized undergraduate degree and a GPA of at least 3.0. Your application will also be reviewed by the Francophone Admissions Subcommittee. Your application may also receive a higher context score. So, while a GPA of 3.0 may be ideal for you, remember to keep your expectations realistic.

Interview schedule

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) has a strict application process. Applicants must have a high level of English proficiency, and they must submit three letters of recommendation. Fees
