CanMEDS character traits
In the CanMEDS application, applicants are expected to exhibit conscientious citizenship, be sensitive communicators, and contribute to the community. Medical school admissions committees are limited in their time, so applicants should choose activities that are in line with their character traits. This study included 1024 comments that detailed perceived learning needs and practice challenges. Responses were coded by three members of the research team, according to the seven CanMEDS roles. Responses involving multiple roles were coded separately. Codes that were inconsistent were discussed face-to-face to ensure accuracy. Overall, less than 5% of the codes were miscoded. Using a constant comparison strategy, researchers were able to identify the differences between two types of responses based on the same themes.
The results from the CanMEDS assessment indicated that these character traits are highly relevant to those in health care. The six major roles of the NA were found to be related to one another. The internal consistency of these seven factors was highly significant (r = 0.97). The five roles were rated very relevantly (r = 0.46) and were associated with their respective characteristics. The five roles with the highest scores were NA-Expert and Scholar, Collaborator and Professional, and Health Advocate.
Despite the importance of personal statements, most Canadian medical schools have dropped these from their application. These long personal statements are no longer an accurate assessment of an applicant’s qualities. A student with a public health project in Peru, for example, will likely have a more impressive story than one who works minimum wage in a minimum wage job. And, as a final note, the CanMEDS assessment is designed to identify the strengths and weaknesses of a student as well as the areas they need to improve.
Language requirements for international students

Lack of resources for non-contract foreign students

Its alumni also include the current and former prime minister of Canada, at least eight foreign leaders, and more than one hundred national legislators. Additionally, there are eight Academy Award winners, ten Grammy Award winners, and four Pulitzer Prize winners. And there are 121 Olympians with over 35 medals. But the lack of resources for non-contract foreign students at Mcgill Medicine is not the only problem.
While there are seven Canadian medical schools that accept non-contract foreign students, there are not many resources available to help them succeed. Only a small number of Canadian medical schools accept non-contract foreign students, and those spots are limited. It is possible to get in without one of these medical schools, but the chances of acceptance are not high. The quotas for international students are relatively low – eighty percent of international students are accepted at Mcgill.
